Apple has just rolled out the first developer preview of iOS 18, and users are finding some unexpected features that weren’t highlighted during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024). One intriguing new feature is what happens when your iPhone’s battery runs out completely.
What Happens When Your Battery Dies?
Traditionally, iPhones have a power reserve feature that keeps a tiny bit of battery life to support essential functions like Find My and NFC unlocking. In iOS 18, this feature has been enhanced.
According to a Reddit post, even when your iPhone’s battery is fully drained, it will still show the time in the upper-left corner of the screen. You’ll also see a message saying “iPhone is Findable” along with a depleted battery icon.
This new feature appears to be limited to the iPhone 15 and the upcoming iPhone 16 series, even though older models like the iPhone XS also have power reserve capabilities.
Other iOS 18 Discoveries
In addition to this hidden gem, iOS 18 brings several other updates. There’s a redesigned flashlight that allows you to adjust the beam width, and numerous new home screen customization options.
Looking Ahead
As beta testing for iOS 18 continues, more features and changes are likely to be discovered. The official release is anticipated in September, alongside the launch of new iPhones.
Apple has also introduced updates for other platforms: iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, watchOS 11, and visionOS 2. These updates will feature Apple Intelligence, a powerful AI technology set to revolutionize device interactions, writing, image creation, and search functions. Siri is also slated for significant improvements with this update.
